Main auto partner Chongqing Changan Automobile (000625.SZ) and relevant parties will own up to 40% of the new firm, a Changan Auto statement showed on Sunday. Neither Changan Auto nor Huawei disclosed financial details. Changan Auto referred Reuters to its Sunday statement and declined to comment further. Huawei has partnerships with other auto companies, including Seres Group (601127.SS) and Jianghuai Automobile (600418.SS), as well as with Changan Auto involving EV brands Avatr and Deepal. The proposed deal will also smooth the way for the business' listing, as Huawei had planned, said two of the people.

REUTERS/Aly Song/File PhotoSHANGHAI, July 14 (Reuters) - Several workers at Tesla's (TSLA.O) Shanghai plant, its biggest manufacturing hub globally by output, said they had been awarded a large increase in their latest quarterly performance bonuses. Three workers told Reuters that they had received bonuses of 1.5 times of monthly base salary for the second quarter. This was higher than the quarterly bonuses - 1.2 times the monthly salary - that the majority of workers used to receive for average performance, the workers said. One of the workers said that his performance bonus had doubled this month on the first quarter, when it was cut to 0.785 times the month salary. But the move comes after Tesla delivered 247,000 units of China-made electric vehicles in the second quarter, the highest level since its Shanghai plant opened.

REUTERS/Caitlin O'HaraSHANGHAI, June 8 (Reuters) - U.S. luxury electric vehicle (EV) maker Lucid Group (LCID.O) is preparing to enter the world's largest auto market, its head of China operations Zhu Jiang said on Thursday. He declined to comment on any plans for local production. Zhu said the funding would help Lucid "bring the advanced EV technology and product experience to the industry and users globally at a faster pace." Lucid, like its peers, is battling mounting losses and tightening cash reserves amid recession fears and a price war sparked by market leader Tesla (TSLA.O).

Current BYD recruiting advertisements for engineers specialising in autonomous driving that target top Chinese universities such as Zhejiang University, indicate that the hiring is ongoing. BYD set up an intelligent driving research division in Shanghai last year, according to three sources with direct knowledge of the matter. The automaker, which is 9.87% owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc (BRKa.N) and had some 660,000 employees as of April, declined to elaborate on its autonomous driving strategy. BYD has also this year teamed up with autonomous driving chip technology firms Nvidia (NVDA.O) and Horizon Robotics (RBOT.TO), saying it wanted to develop more intelligent vehicles. Both are high-volume models and further advances in BYD autonomous driving features would popularise the technology within China.

The situation marks a rare outburst of discontent at Tesla's Shanghai plant, whose workers Musk praised last year for burning "the 3 a.m. oil" to keep operations running during the city's two-month COVID lockdown. Some took to Twitter, owned by Musk and blocked in China, to tweet to the billionaire, his mother Maye Musk, and Tesla. "Please pay attention to the performance (bonus) of frontline workers at Tesla's Shanghai factory being arbitrarily deducted," said a person with the handle @AFeiywu on Twitter in a tweet directed at Elon Musk and Tesla's Asia unit. She recently completed a two-week tour in the country during which she visited the Shanghai factory and promoted her memoir.

The workers said Tesla supervisors mentioned a "safety incident" when they were asked about reasons for the bonus cut. Several online posts claimed workers at the Shanghai plant were being unfairly punished for an incident this year at the factory where one worker died in February. According to a report published by the local Pudong government on April 12, there was a mechanical accident in the welding workshop at Tesla's Shanghai plant on Feb. 4 that killed one worker.

Some took to Twitter, owned by Musk and blocked in China, to tweet to Elon Musk, his mother Maye Musk, and Tesla's accounts. "Please pay attention to the performance (bonus) of frontline workers at Tesla's Shanghai factory being arbitrarily deducted," said one post on Twitter in a reply to a tweet from Musk about a SpaceX launch. Tesla and Elon Musk did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
SHANGHAI, April 1 (Reuters) - China's Huawei Technologies (HWT.UL) is partnering with more legacy automakers to produce Aito-branded electric cars, the company's senior executive said on Saturday, in a move to expand its presence in the auto industry. Huawei will team up with Chery Automobile (CHERY.UL), BAIC Motor (1958.HK) and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (600418.SS) in jointly developing and manufacturing Aito-branded vehicles, Richard Yu, Huawei's Smart Car CEO, said at the China EV 100 forum in Beijing. Huawei, which has already a partnership with Seres Group (601127.SS) to make Aito cars, plans a series of models including SUVs, sedans and multipurpose vehicles under the Aito brand, Yu added. Huawei has been hit by a series of export controls by Washington which says it is a security risk, which the company denies. The sanctions have also affected Huawei's partnerships with global automakers, who have given up using Huawei's vehicle connectivity technologies in the past two years, Yu said on Saturday.
BYD also reduced shifts at its Shenzhen plant, which makes its Han sedans, from three shifts per day to two per day, four people with knowledge of the development said. BYD did not give a reason for the reduced shifts in its planning memo reviewed by Reuters. Reuters was not able to determine how long the reduced shifts would last for BYD and if any of its other three assembly plants in China were affected by production schedule changes. It was also not clear how the reduced shifts would translate into production volume changes. To spur demand, BYD began offering discounts for its best-selling Yuan Plus and Seal EVs in March.

REUTERS/Aly SongSHANGHAI, Feb 24 (Reuters) - Nio (9866.HK) plans to build its first battery plant to produce big cylindrical cells similar to those used by Tesla, two people familiar with the matter said, as the Chinese EV maker seeks to cut its reliance on suppliers like CATL (300750.SZ). It will be located next to its main manufacturing hub in Hefei city, in eastern China's Anhui province, they said. Reuters is reporting the details of Nio's plan for the first time. SHANGHAI, Feb 21 (Reuters) - Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Nio Inc (9866.HK) plans to build a factory in Chuzhou city in the eastern province of Anhui to produce budget EVs under a new brand, said three people with knowledge of the matter. China's BYD to launch new premium electric car brand in 2023
  + stars: | 2022-11-08 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
SHANGHAI, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD said on Tuesday that it would launch a new premium brand in the first quarter of 2023. BYD said vehicles produced under the new brand will be priced above 1 million yuan ($138,096.75), without further elaboration. Having ditched gasoline vehicles from its product mix this year, BYD has, more than any other automaker, been able to capitalise on a range of incentives for electric cars offered by the Chinese central government as well as local governments. The automaker, which produces both pure electric and plug-in hybrid cars, has topped electric vehicle sales in the world's biggest auto market, with sales more than tripled in the first 10 months to hit 1.4 million, according to company filings.
